"Containment" / "Integration" (2016) was made for the Container Artist Residency 01, an artist residency that took place on container ships around the world. The work is a pair of specifically designed shipping crates ("Containment") that unpack into a 10 metre long frieze ("Integration"). The illusionistic composition on the face of each painting reflects the structure on the back of each panel. The white paint was applied by refugees seeking asylum in Athens who were paid at an hourly rate for their labour. The work travelled from Athens to New York by container ship, continuing the westward journey that the refugees were unable to pursue. The work was shown at Para Site in Hong Kong in 2016.
